Anna Margaret “Ankie” Murray was born, January 18, 1949, the sixth child to Robert and Mary (Vann) Lewis. She was raised in Kansas City, Missouri with twelve of her siblings (a set of twins having not survived premature birth). Ankie lost her mother at the young age of 16, which instilled a strong sense of family that burned in her heart for the rest of her life. Ankie graduated in the Class of 1967 from Central High School. She continued her education becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and later obtained her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Avila University. Ankie married her high school sweetheart, Herman Fristoe, with whom she had three daughters: Terene, Terilyn and Sherilyn. She loved her daughters with her whole heart, and they loved her equally. Ankie and Herman’s union ended in divorce, but they remained friends. Ankie later worked for Ford Motor Corporation for over 20 years where she met “her best friend”, Herb Murray, with whom she was married from 1995 until his death in 2015. Although Ankie passed on September 4, 2019, her spirit of love, strength, and fortitude will live on forever. Ankie also was preceded in death by her father, brothers: Robert “Bub”, Anthony “Fluffy”, George “Uncle Grizz” and Samuel “Toot” and sisters (Martha and Teemon). Her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was all about family. She loved music and often would sit quietly reading her Bible. Leaving to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy are: Daughters: Terene Fristoe of Dallas, TX, and Terilyn and Sherilyn Fristoe of Kansas City; 8 Grandchildren; and 6 Great-grandchildren; Sisters: Mary, Edna, Robert Ann. Shawn (Lonnie), and Sherri (Kelvin) of Kansas City and Sylvia (Pasha) of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends all of whom loved her dearly and will miss her eternally. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00a.m. on Thursday, September 12, 2019 at Watkins Heritage Chapel 4000 Emanuel Cleaver Blvd. Kansas City, Missouri 64130. Private disposition.
