Claudia Fells Obituary

Claudia M Fells was the first child born to Pauline and John McCullom on August 18, 1931 in Brookhaven, Mississippi. Her mother called her “Alpha” because she was the first born. Claudia entered into eternal rest on March 15, 2019. She attended and graduated from Alexander High School in Brookhaven, Mississippi. Claudia left Brookhaven, Mississippi and moved to Kansas City, Kansas where she met and married Alvester Fells. They were married on February 28, 1958.  To this union, Claudia and Alvester were blessed with four children; Paulette, Alvester Jr., Loria and Diana (Kay), and were married for 39 beautiful years. In 1994, after 30 years of service, Claudia retired from Research Medical Center where she worked as a Unit Secretary.

She enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren, her word search puzzle books, drawing, and baking.  Everyone loved her pound cakes.  She also enjoyed hanging out and going out to eat with her cousin, Artis Pool. They enjoyed every “all-you-can-eat” restaurant in Kansas City. Claudia gave her life to Christ at a young age, beginning her Christian journey at Center Street Church of Christ in Brookhaven, Mississippi. Upon moving to Kansas City, she continued her Christian journey at the Swope Parkway Church of Christ where she was very active.

For the last seven years, Claudia attended the Greater Metropolitan Church of Christ under the leadership of Branden Mims. Claudia was always a ‘listening ear’, always taking time to listen, and always offered words of encouragement. Claudia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two sons, Johnny McCullom and Alvester Fells, Jr. (Pam), and six brothers: John David (JD) McCullom, Paul McCullom, Vercy McCullom, Curtis McCullom, and Glenn McCullom.

She is survived by her four children: Paulette Bruce (Andre) of Lee’s Summit, MO, Loria Fells and Diana (Kay) Fells of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren: Andre Bruce, Jr., Corey Bruce of Kansas City, MO; Shaun Bruce (Hyunsu) of Lee’s Summit, MO; Nikayla Morris of Honolulu, HI; Chandra Fells and Colby Fells of Raytown, MO; Alvester Tre’Von Fells of Kansas City, MO; three great grandchildren: JaSiah Williams and Isaac Williams of Raytown, MO; and A’Mirrah Bruce of North Kansas City, MO; three sisters: Edith Smartt (Willie) of Sacramento, CA, Kathy McCullom of Los Angeles, CA, and Sandra Brown of Bogue Chitto, MS, and two brothers, John McCullom, Jr. of Greenville, MS and George McCullom of Raymore, MO, and a special brother-in-law, Roger Fells of Kansas City, MO, cousin Artis Pool of Kansas City, MO, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends who will cherish her memory forever.
