Louise Loryne Rivera was born December 26, 1946 in Wichita Falls, Texas. She was the only child to the late Cleo Belcher and Booker T. Merritt. At an early age of 2 years old, she moved to Lubbock Texas to be raised by her Aunt Bell Thigpin, affectionately known as “Aunt Bell”. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Cleo Belcher and Booker Merritt as well as her Aunt Bell. She was also proceeded in death by one daughter, Telisha R. Rivera and two grandsons’ Davon Rivera-Wright and Julius Rivera.
She accepted Christ at an early age in the Baptist church and enjoyed reading her bible scriptures. Louise graduated from Dunbar High School in 1965 and continued her education, graduating from Langston University in 1970. She obtained her Master’s degree in Education. She was also a proud member of the Delta Sigma Theta sorority. She always excelled in all her studies and achievements. She moved to Kansas City Missouri and married the late Roy Milam.
To this union, she had one son, Michael L. Milam. She later married the late Dave Rivera Sr. and to this union 2 sons and 2 daughters were born, Davena, Dave Jr, Telisha and Eric Rivera. In 1972 she began her career in Kansas City, Kansas dedicating her life to the education of children working at Stanley Elementary. She also held various roles within the Board of Education in Kansas City, Missouri for over 30 years. She lived a long and beautiful life. Her sense of humor was contagious making She made an impact on those she knew and friends everywhere she went. Her sense of humor was also contagious. She leaves to cherish her memory three sons, Michael L. Milam, Dave R. Rivera Jr (Valerie), Eric E. Rivera, one daughter, Davena L. Rivera. She also leaves 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. A special cousin – Robert Moore and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 12:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at Watkins Heritage Chapel. Visitation 11:00 A.M. Interment Private Disposition.
