Alberta Marshall Obituary

Mrs. Alberta  Marshall, was born October 20, 1920 to John and Sarah Martin in Independence, Missouri. She was a lifelong resident of Independence, Missouri. Mrs. Marshall joined Second Baptist Church in 1943. She enjoyed attending Second Baptist Church that her parents attended. She graduated from college at the age of 52 and became a nurse at 60 with a degree from Penn Valley Community College. Mrs. Marshall worked at the General Baptist Convalescent home  and became an administrator of nursing the only black run business for 20 years, she was over 50 employees and provided an opportunity for 12 employees to gain a marketable skills with an NA, CNA and/ or CMT degree. She provided many meals for the under privileged and shut in and had made donations and volunteered all her life.

Mrs. Marshall contributed to fund allowing the shut in to gain access outside of their homes, thus allowing them the kind of Independence we all want and have taken care of people her entire life. When the Second Baptist Church built the fellowship hall she was able to donate the equipment for the new kitchen and she was honored to help, she remembered the old kitchen and how they fed so many people in such a limited space. Mrs. Marshall enjoyed seeing all the people enjoying the meals they prepared.

She was preceded in death by all her children Anthony A. Thomas, Margaret P. Thomas and Jerry B. Thomas, her husband Percy C. Marshall, grandsons Dwayne and Dwight Thomas.  She leaves to Cherish her memory 3 of her grandchildren, Glenn E. Thomas (Deanna), Alberta D. Tilton (Duane), Zeta Sullivan (Micah), 7 great grandchildren, 21 great-great grandchildren, 3 great-great-great grandchildren plus a host of nieces, nephews and cousins and other relatives. 

Services will be held Wednesday, October 7, 2020, 11 am at Second Baptist Church, Independence, Mo., visitation 10 am. Interment in Woodland Cemetery, Independence, Mo.
