Betty Jean Ramsey, 84 was born in Kansas City, Missouri on January 4, 1936. She was the third of four children born to the union of Roy L. Ramsey and Helen Ramsey in Kansas City, Mo. She is preceded in death by two sisters Helen Hall, Mary E. Fritz, one brother Howard A. Ramsey and her eldest son Michael R. Ramsey (PF4).
Betty attended school at R.T. Coles in Kansas City, Mo. She received her GED diploma and later a business degree from KCMO Business College. As she went through life, she worked at Sherwood Williams Paint (accountant), Western Electric (assembler) and retired from General Motors (assembler) at the sweet age of 52. After retirement she worked part time for the Dana Bartlett family.
Betty Jean Ramsey enjoyed life and always challenged herself to be the best version of what God would have her be. Betty was a member of Universal Spiritual Church of Christ for 10 years and became a member of Metropolitan Spiritual Church of Christ in 1987, where she was a member until God called her home. She didn’t believe in letting dust settle under her feet, she became a member of the senior’s group at Palestine Community Center & Friendship Baptist Church where she traveled with a wonderful group of people that built and developed a beautiful network of friendships.
One of the many hobbies Betty had was sewing, she love making quilts and became a master crafter for the art of quilt making. These quilts tell stories of how slaves communicated.
To cherish her memories she leaves her daughter Sharon Ramsey, two sons Dwayne Ramsey (Rena) and William Ramsey (Kim). Grandchildren Derrell Ramsey(Mia), Michael Ramsey(Tameka), Shakeydra Smith(Derrick), Raphael Taylor Sr., Ebony Ramsey, Jamal Ramsey, Maurice Ramsey, David Washington, Ashley and Felicia Ramsey(twins), Michael Lopez, Iesha Taylor, Davonte’ Taylor, Vincent Ramsey, Angelique Taylor and Kierra Taylor. She also leaves to mourn a host of great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was loved by her family and many friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 11am on Saturday, October 17th at Metro Spiritual Church 1231 Garfield Ave, Kansas City, MO 64127. Visitation 9AM. Interment Twelve Gates Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
