Carrie (Wright) Strong Obituary

Carrie Mae (Wright) Strong, 94, of Kansas City, MO, passed away at home July 23, 2020, surrounded in love.

Carrie was born November 22, 1925, in Sumner, Mississippi to Rev Solomon and Carrie (Biles) Wright.  She has lived in Kansas City, Missouri most of her life but she traveled in and out the country whenever she could, land or sea until her health declined.

December 7, 1941 Carrie married her childhood friend and sweetheart RP Strong, this union conceived 4 children; a Baby Boy stillborn, Robert P Strong, Jr aka Sekou Abdelmalik aka Brother Red, Irene M Tombs and Mary A Adgers. All whom preceded her in death, along with brothers LC and David Wright and great grandson Dav’ed Bronson.

Carrie was a great cook and loved to bake. She was known for her delicious homemade rolls and strawberry cheesecakes.

Carrie loved her family immediate and extended and always offered a warm friendly smile to whomever she met. She would make a complete stranger feel as loved as one of her own.  She earned her living as a Domestic, but the truth of the matter is she had a “Servant’s Heart”.  Serving others was her gift to the world. She catered and served parties. She also through The Heart of America Sisterhood, Group No. 1, which she was President for many years served her community with Salad Tea’s and Fashion Shows. THoAS raised funds to give scholarships to students, throw annual picnics for developmentally disabled children and annual Christmas parties for the Children of Niles Home.  Carrie’s love to serve had her on numerous boards and auxiliaries at St Stephen’s Baptist Church, which she has been a member for over 75 years.

She leaves to cherish her memory: brother, Solomon Wright (Rialto, CA); grandchildren: Kimberlice Gibson, Dana Henry, Madlyn Tombs, Jennifer Doering, LaDanna Abdelmalik, Sumayyaa Abdelmalik, Dawud Abdelmalik, Hallalah Hasam; great-grandchildren: Dawud K Hasam (Raegan), Nicholas Reid Tombs (Kim), Aisha Rainey (Dan), Elijah Tombs, Timothy Williams, Veronica Doering, Iris Doering; great great-grandchildren: Khary Buatte-Hasam, Khalil Buatte-Hasam, Genevieve  Buatte-Hasam, Samir Buatte-Hasam , KeJuan Rainey, Skyler Rainey, Greyson Rainey, Parker Rainey, Jayda McAleavy; daughter in-law: Adjua Abdelmalik; son in-law: Leroy Tombs, Jr and many cousins, nieces and nephews
