Cora Kathryn Jones was born on December 20, 1929 in Harrisonville, Missouri to Freda and Ralph Jacobs.. She earned her wings on Monday, December 28, 2020 at Research Medical Center. Cora attended monumental Prince Whipple Grade School in Harrisonville for her Elementary and Middle School Education and then her parents sent the siblings to a private school in Kansas City for high school: Western Baptist Seminary. After high school from Western Baptist Seminary, Cora pursued different types of correspondent classes in law her first love and did some part time sales.
Later she took Associate computer courses but one of her greatest joys was her job as a Domestic Engineer with the Lefkovitz Family for over 30 years until she retired in August of 2002. In 1949 she met a soldier in the Army, Lucius C. Jones. They married a year later in 1950 and to that union, two daughters were born, Gayla K. Hodges and Kimberly T. Jones. Cora has two grandsons, Ralphael Hodges (Leawood, KS) and Stefan Hodges (Tina) – Tampa, FL.. Cora was a devoted mom and grandmother. She loved God and her church and was always helping those in need.
She gave faithfully to the City Union Mission if not in monetary donations bringing items to the center. She gave faithfully her tithes and offering, the Breast Cancer Association, the American Heart Association and would never pass a homeless person without giving them something. She was a member of St. Stephen Baptist Church for 43 years and joined under the pastorage of Rev. John W. Williams and was a faithful member of the Family Department, BTU and the Good Samaritan Circle and worked with the Senior Ministry. She was a member of the Zeta Amicae Sorority (Friends of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority), a past member of the Past Presidents Club, A member of the Urban League of Greater Kansas City (The Guild, Board of Governors and Friends of the League) and the Friends of Alvin Ailey. She loved to travel until her health slowed her down.
Cora was preceded in death by her husband, Lucius C. Jones, mother, Freda E. Jacobs, father, Ralph K. Jacobs, sister, Peggy J. White, a niece – Rhonda J. Robinson and a nephew – Damon A. White and a great-granddaughter, Amondi Hodges. She leaves to cherish her memory: Daughters, Gayla K. Hodges (James - deceased) and Kimberly T. Jones, brothers, Ralph K. Jacobs (Los Angeles, CA) and Victor C. Jacobs of the city, host of nieces and nephews, a host of other relatives and friends and the 65th Street Neighborhood Group
Memorial service will be held Saturday, January 9, 2021, 2 pm at Watkins Heritage Chapel. Interment in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville, Mo.
