Dorsey Mitchell was born in Tupelo, Mississippi on July 3, 1934 to Dorsey Lee Mitchell and Eunice. Dorsey was born as the second of twelve children. He moved to Kansas City, MO when he was 18 years old. He attended Northeast Junior High School in Kansas City, KS and joined St. John Baptist Church.
In 1955, Dorsey married his soulmate Betty Mitchell. Together they raised six children. He served in the National Guard 772nd Engineer Company for several years. He worked at Scott Barrel Co. and Barrel Remodeling. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, barbequing for large groups of family and friends, and tinkering on a collection of cars. Dorsey loved cars and often had a full yard of cars.
In 1973, he joined Bethel Baptist Church where he served as an usher and ultimately a deacon for many years. In 2014, he joined Macedonia Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Dorsey was a dedicated member at several baptist churches in his lifetime. He enjoyed singing in the choir, attending Sunday School, and participating in Brotherhood fellowship. He loved his church home dearly. His health ultimately hindered him from attending regularly but his devotion remained.
Dorsey passed away on Friday, January 1, 2021. He was preceded in death by his Mother and Father - Dorsey and Eunice Mitchell; Brother- Bill Mitchell; and Daughter - Denise Mitchell.
To cherish a lifetime of memories, he leaves behind his beloved Wife Betty Mitchell; Children - Doris Mitchell, Terry Mitchell, Dorsey Mitchell, Dennis Mitchell and Mark Mitchell. Siblings - Gladys Quinn, Eddie Mae Booker, Elorise Hawkins, James Mitchell (JD), Joe Mitchell (Bea), J.T. Mitchell, Charles Mitchell (Charlene), Vernell Mitchell.
To carry on his strong legacy: 17 Grandchildren, 19 Great Grandchildren, 2 Great-Great Grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 11am on Monday, January 11th at Watkins Heritage Chapel 4000 Emanuel Cleaver Blvd KCMO 64130. Visitation 9am. Interment Longview Cemetery.
