Dr. LARRY N. CHAMBERS, Sr.
Dr. Larry Norel Chambers, Sr. passed away on November 26, 2019 at 9:40am in Kansas City, Missouri. He was born on April 24, 1944 in Kansas City, Kansas to Beneva and Cornelius Chambers, Sr. the youngest of eight children. Larry grew up in Kansas City, Missouri where he joined the Boy Scouts of America and obtained the rank of Eagle Scout. He participated in ROTC before graduating from Lincoln High School in 1963. After high school, he served in the US Army in South Korea. Following an honorable discharge, he furthered his education. At the University of Missouri in Kansas City he obtained a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree. Subsequent to a life of hard work and dedication he acquired his Doctorate degree in Public Administration at the University of Colorado at Denver. While Larry lived in Kansas City, he was employed by the City of Kansas City, Missouri, Penn Valley Community College and Western Missouri Mental Health. The family moved to Colorado where he worked for the City of Thornton and the Community College of Denver. Larry retired from Saint Cloud State University in Minnesota as a university administrator where he served on the President’s Cabinet. Larry had tremendous love for his family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, traveling and taking pictures. Larry was introduced to his lovely bride Ruth Rabb by Sankfield Bullock, Jr. and was married on May 19, 1973. Dr. Chambers memories will live on with his wife of 46 years Ruth Rabb Chambers, two sons, Larry Jr. and Darren, a special grandson, Vance, (Nicole Cooley), brothers, Cornelius Chambers, William Chambers (Jerrie), Norman Chambers, PhD (San Diego, CA) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Beneva and Cornelius, sister, Delores Sargent, brothers, George Melvin Chambers, Sr. and Johnny Chambers.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at Watkins Heritage Chapel 4000 Emanuel Cleaver II Blvd. KCMO. Visitation 9:00 a.m. Interment in Twelve Gates Memorial Garden.
