Edith Marie Hubbard was born to the union of Malvin Hubbard and Geraldine Jones Hubbard on May 5, 1949, in Kansas City, Missouri. She departed this life on December 11, 2020, at Hidden Lake Care Center in Raytown, Missouri. Both parents and one sister-in-law, Twyliah Hubbard, preceded her in death. She was affectionately known as Beadie, Boom Boom, and Chef, and was the life of the party wherever she went with her infectious laugh and mischievous sense of humor.
She received her formal education in the Kansas City, Missouri School District, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1967. As her career choice in nursing became her passion, she received her nursing training and devoted herself to caring for people throughout her life. Many were touched and delivered at the hands of “Nurse Ratched.”
From childhood, Edith was a longtime member of Barker Temple Church of God In Christ under the pastorate of Bishop V.M. Barker and later Bishop E. Harris Moore. In early 2000, as she reaffirmed her faith in Christ, she was baptized in the Missouri River in White Cloud, Kansas. She united with Holy Light Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Pleze Smith, Jr.
Edith leaves to cherish her memories: her daughter, Jarita Cleveland; two grandchildren, Remi Cleveland and Jermar Cleveland (Aleicia); one great grand-daughter, Aubrihanna Cleveland; one loving and devoted sister, Deborah E. Gibbs; 4 brothers, J.P. Wallace (Melody), Malvin Hubbard, Jr., Frank Hubbard, Sr. (Patsy), and Reuben Hubbard (Terri); her life-long friend, Doris Hatten; her bonus daughter, Angie Buchanan; and a host of other nieces, nephews, family and friends. She will be greatly missed.
Services will be held Saturday, December 26, 2020, 3 pm at Watkins Heritage Chapel 4000 Emanuel Cleaver Blvd KCMO 64130. Visitation 2 – 3 pm.
