Mr. Floyd May Sr. 

Floyd May, Sr. was born on April 12, 1927 in Kansas City, Missouri.  He was the fourth child of eight children born to Arcenia Morrissette May and James Floyd Shannon May. He was preceded in death by his wife Aritta Theodora Palmer May, siblings Rosetta May Campbell, James E. May, Vivian F. May Carlock, Edgar Eugene May, and Walter R. May.  His sister Barbara J. May-Wade and sister-in-law Margaret J. May cherish his memory. 

Floyd attended Wendell Phillips Elementary and R.T. Coles Vocational High School. After high school, he married Aritta Palmer.  God blessed their union with seven children: Floyd O. May, Jr.,  LaVerta Arcenia May Lundy,  Rita Shadeed, Teresa May,  Michael May, Merele May, and Siabhan May-Washington.   For several decades, Floyd worked as a stevedore, then clerk at Rock Island Railroad and the St. Louis Southern Railway Cotton Belt Route. In addition, he worked several part-time janitorial positions at Nathan Weiner & Associates, Braniff Airlines, Trans World Airlines, and Our Lady of Guadalupe School. Floyd worked tirelessly to provide for his family and to enable all of his children to attend private Catholic high schools (De La Salle, Loretto Academy, Loretto in Kansas City, Rockhurst High) and numerous colleges. 

Floyd was a dedicated and faithful member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.  For many years he served as an usher and assisted with church collection. Prior to St. Francis, Floyd was a member of Blessed Sacrament and St. Joseph Parishes. 

He passed away peacefully on February 7, 2020 at his son Michael and daughter-in-law Tina’s home in Tampa, Florida. Floyd had abundant love for his family and friends.  He leaves to cherish his memory his children Floyd O. May, Jr. (Connie  May), LaVerta Arcenia May Lundy, J.D. ( Harold Lundy, Sr. Ph.D) , Rita Shadeed, Teresa May (Von Cunningham, Sr.) Michael May (Tina May) Merele May (Karen May), and Siabhan May-Washington, Ed.D. (Rick Washington).

 His grandchildren include Cheriss May, Floyd May III. ( Ledra May),  Harold Lundy, Jr., Ph.D., Baruch Lundy, Ph.D. (Venissa Lundy, CPA), Jamin  Lundy (Christy Lundy, DPT), Ayana Azim (Rashad          Abdul-Rahiem), Hanif Azim (Katherine Randolph), Mikhail Shadeed, Khadijah Shadeed, Tariq Shadeed, Chachere May, Von Cunningham, Jr. (Lindsay Cunningham, CPA), Jessica May-Rabbach, M.D. (Dustin Rabbach), Camille May, Emily May, M.D., Brandon Washington, Lauren Washington, and Taryn Washington. His great-grandchildren include Zhory May, Floyd May, IV., Hidayah Abdul-Rahiem, Al Emaam Abdul-Rahiem, Telawah Abdul-Rahiem, Adeelah Abdul-Rahiem, Sierra Randolph-Azim, Alyssa Lundy, Aaron Lundy, Jamin Lundy, Jr.,  Rose Lundy, Olivia Rabbach, and Patrick Rabbach. He also leaves to cherish his memory several nieces and nephews, relatives,  and many beloved friends.
