George Charles Russell was born February 27, 1935 in Decatur, Mississippi to parents G.C. Russell and Armetta Bentley Russell. George relocated to Kansas City, Missouri in 1970 to be with the family. He married Margaret Hunter on March 30, 1961. They were married for 27 years. George attended Boler High School where he excelled in baseball and basketball.
He was also an avid reader especially of the Bible. George worked for the Kansas City School District retiring after 28 years. He then worked for K.U. Medical Center retiring in 2013.
George was a member of Greater Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church for 40 years and an usher until his illness. George was preceded in death by parents G.C. and Armetta Bentley Russell. His sister Christine Hardison, brother Calvin Russell, Sr. George is survived by his children; Andrew Russell (Laurette), Shirrell Russell and Melinda Russell. Grandchildren; A.J. Russell (Regan), Anthony Russell, Ashley Russell, Bianca Russell, Marquez Russell and eight great-grandchildren. His siblings; Henry Lee Russell, Eddie Ray Russell, Louise Frison, Shirley Windham, Catherine Thomas and George Russell along with a host of nieces and nephews. And a special acknowledgement to Alberta Hunter and the Hunter family and Gregory Washington.
Memorial service will be held on Friday, September 4, 2020 at 2 pm at Watkins Heritage Chapel.
