Gloria Byers Obituary

Gloria Dean Byers,82, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning February 16, 2021 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, MO.

She was born on April 2, 1938 in Clarksville, Texas, the only child born to the late Rev. Curtis M. Sims and Mineola Dawson. Although she was an only child, she was very close to her cousins Eunice, Ollie, Betty, and Sandra.   She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years Levester Byers, one daughter Karen Denise Byers, one son Darryl Wayne Byers, her parents Rev. Curtis M. Sims, Mineola Dawson, Ollie Bell Sims (stepmother), and Perry Dawson (stepfather).

Gloria moved to Kansas City, MO in the 1950s.  She attended grade school in Clarksville, TX. She attended Lincoln High School in Kansas City, MO. Shortly after moving to Kansas City, she met the love of her life. Gloria and Levester were united in marriage on June 8, 1957. The two shared eight children, five sons and three daughters.

Gloria loved the Lord; she was baptized at an early age. She attended Pleasant Green Baptist Church in Kansas City, KS. There Gloria served as a deaconess. She made sure she never missed a service, even after having one of her legs amputated, she still made sure son, Greg, took her to church on Sundays. Once she couldn't attend, she made sure to watch Rev. Dr. Jarvis L. Collier on Facebook so she can hear the word. Gloria loved to travel when she had the chance. She made sure to attend all family reunions and gospel plays and concerts. One of Gloria's favorite pastime was knitting. Gloria enjoyed shopping, shopping, and more shopping. Gloria also enjoyed spending time with her family as her family was very important to her.

Gloria leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters Debra and Anita Byers both of Kansas City, MO, Marvin (Brenda) Byers of Denver, CO, Kevin Byers of Kansas City, MO, and Kenneth (Lletha) Byers of Kansas City, MO. Four sisters in law Cora Lee Bailey of Atlanta, GA, Lorena Dunbar of Morristown, AR, LuVellar Byers of Overland Park, KS and Shirley (Vinord) Wallace, one brother Ulysses (Coeteal) Wallace, one daughter-in-law Lolita Byers of Clarksville, TX, and one sister-in-law Maeola Byers, 16 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
