LEROY TYLER, JR. Obituary

Leroy Harry Tyler, Jr. passed away on March 26, 2020 at the Kansas City VA Medical Center. He was born on June 9, 1947 in Kansas City, Missouri to the union of Myra M. Tyler and Leroy H. Tyler, Sr.  From this union, fourteen children were born.  Both parents and three infant siblings and one sister, Tawana Tyler, preceded him in death.

Leroy attended St. Monica Catholic grade school. He attended Lillis High School and later transferred to Central High School where he graduated in 1965. While in high school, Leroy was part of the rifle team and ROTC. After graduation, he furthered his education at Penn Valley where he completed the Refrigeration Certification.

Leroy enlisted in the United States Army and served in Vietnam.  He survived the elements of the foreign land and was bitten by a jungle monkey and came to face-to-face with a tiger and was spared to come home to Kansas City. Leroy worked at Bendix and later worked at Montgomery Ward where he retired after 20 years of service.

Leroy attended the Catholic Church and served as an altar boy.  He later attended St. Stephen Baptist Church and faithfully served as a deacon and sang in the male chorus.  He later joined Concord Fortress of Hope Church and served in Parking Lot Ministry and sang with the Male Chorus. He enjoyed playing chicken foot and the fellowship with members of the Senior Ministry.

Leroy was a Life Time Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and a member of Post 8100, where he served as Quarter Master and District #5 Quarter Master.  He was also a member of the Disabled Veterans (DAV), Military Order of the Cootie, the Turkey Federation, the American Legion and a volunteer at the Kansas City VA Medical Center.

In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and hunting with his brothers and friends. He was a family man and loved spending time with his family especially with his grandchildren.  He enjoyed barbequing. Leroy loved to travel and take weekend trips. He enjoyed watching the Kansas City Chiefs.

Leroy was formerly married to Yvonne Shannon and from this union were born Leroy, III and Brandyce. He later married Josea Bell. No children were born from this union but he gained a daughter, Angela.

Leroy leaves to mourn his memory; his wife of 27 years Josea, his children, Leroy III, Brandyce and Angela (Richard). His grandchildren: LeShae, Tanaja, Kobe, Mariah, Jalen, and Brennan; four great-grandchildren: Lynell, Abdul, Asiya and Leiylah; his brothers: Arley Tyler, DeWayne Tyler, Sr., Christopher Tyler, Sr., (Susan), Darren Tyler (Rhonda), Anthony Tyler, Sr. (Donna); his sisters, Beverly King, Dawn Hampton, Darra Tyler-Smith (Marcus) and Sherilyn Tyler.

He will be sadly missed by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends Larry Bonner and Robert Dye.
