Mr. Bernard Beatty Obituary

Bernard R. Beatty passed away February 15, 2022.  He was the fifth of seven children born to the union of Ulysses S. and Alma (Harris) Bady on April 7, 1928 in Kansas City KS.  Bernard attended the Kansas City Kansas public School system attending Northeast Jr. High School and graduating from Sumner High School in 1947.  He later attended the University of Kansas, Lawrence, KS, and obtained a certificate in programming from the University of Missouri.

Bernard married Bertha M. Northern-Beatty on August 25, 1950.  To this union four children were born, Bernadette L., Cheryl D., Brian W., and Bruce B. 

Following the dissolution of his first marriage, Bernard married Edna Hurtt Giles on December 23, 1974; sharing a special bond with stepdaughter, Algy L. Mason. The couple joined Second Baptist Church in Kansas City where he served as trustee, served on various committees, and  recently honored as the oldest male member.

Bernard retired from Bendix Corporation,  currently Honeywell, after 38 years of service.  He also taught programming at Penn Valley and sold real estate.

He was a lifetime member of the NAACP and supported several causes including the Lou Rawls United Negro College Fund and the United campaign.

Bernard was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Maxine Pogue, Catherine Lewis, Marion Brown, and Shirley Ann Johnson.

He leaves to cherish his memory daughters Bernadette Walker Harris (Melton), and Cheryl D Beatty of Los Angeles, CA, sons Brian W. Beatty and Bruce B. Beatty (Gail) and a stepdaughter Algy L. Mason (Larry);  his brother, Leonard Beatty Sr. of Detroit MI, 5 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Service will be held Thursday, February 24, 2022, 11:00am at Second Baptist Church. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10am-11am at the church. Condolences may be shared on our website.
