Mr. Buddy Riddle, Sr. Obituary

Buddy Laurel Riddle, Sr. was born July 29, 1943, Hartshorne, OK to Annie Ray (Harris) Riddle and Joseph Cepheus Riddle Sr. His parents preceded him in death June 26 & June 30, 1989, Hartshorne, OK

He accepted Christ and was baptized in 1950 at Mt Nebo Baptist Church, Hartshorne, OK

Buddy attended primary and middle school in Hartshorne, OK and graduated from McAlister High School in 1960. He moved to Kansas City, MO after high school for employment and play baseball with Intramural Negro League.  He met and married Delores Marie (Chatman) Riddle December 22, 1962, in Kansas City, Mo to this union 6 children were born.

He continued his passion for baseball as a lifetime fan and season ticket holder for the St Louis, Cardinals. He travelled from Kansas City to St. Louis several weekends every summer to attend Cardinal home games at Busch Stadium.

Buddy was gainfully employed at Sunflower Ammunition Plant, De Soto, Kansas, and Porters’ Auto Glass before opening his own business- Buddy’s Auto Glass Company in 1975. He was successful and maintained a profitable business for more than 35 years until his retirement.

Buddy answered the call to preaching ministry in 1977 at Paradise Baptist Church Kansas City, MO under the leadership of Pastor I. V. McKenzie, and was a 50-year plus member of his church.  

Buddy was preceded in death by his siblings: Joseph Cepheus Riddle Jr (sonny), Evelyn Chalmers, Ruby Lee Smitherman, Eddie Gene Riddle, Luther Curtis Riddle, Ulysses Joe Carter, Claude Howard Riddle, Arthur Eugene Riddle, Jovenia “Tennie” Ockletree-Bridgemon, Ivie Kathrine Johnson, Pastor Tommy D. Riddle and Joann Sinclair-Choates.

He leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Delores Riddle and 6 children: Eunice Riddle, Buddy L. Riddle Jr, Paris (Mark) McConnell, Brenda (Louis) Sutton, Tracy (Calvin) Person, Lachelle (Gregory) Alexander. Godson Ronnie Ross. 11 grandchildren: Antonio & TeAirra Riddle, Moses (Alicia), Caleb & Matthew McConnell, DeOra, Aubrea & Sir Louis Sutton, Cameron Person, Briona & Nyah Alexander, 4 great grandchildren: Christian Joseph & London Williams, Jayden & Jordan McConnell.

Buddy was affectionately known as “Uncle Buddy” to so many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family which exceeds 200 relatives 7 generations. He was often called Mr. B by family friends and Mr. Buddy by many of his children’s’ friends.  

Funeral Service will be held Saturday, April 9, 2022, 11:00am at Watkins Heritage Chapel. Interment Floral Hills Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9am-11am at the chapel. Service conducted by Watkins Heritage Chapel. Condolences may be shared on our website.
