Obituary
Charles McField, Sr.Charles s1rentford McField, Senior was born on Monday, July 16, 1928 at thehome of midwife Lucy Braxton in Kansas City, Missouri. He was the son of Otis H.& Ruth E. McField.
He departed this earthly existence on Monday, August 21,2023 in Lenexa, Kansas.
Charles sent his first seven years in Quindaro, Kansas and attended VernonSchool. In 1935 his family moved to Kansas City, Kansas (next door to his father'stailor shop). He attended Stowe Elementary School from third to sixth grades,and then Northeast High School from seventh to ninth grades. He graduatedfrom Sumner High School in 1946. He furthered his education by graduating fromthe Kansas City Community College in 1948. He attended the University of Kansas until drafted into the United States Army on December 20, 1950.
Charles completed basic training at Fort Riley, Kansas and secondary training inCommunications Signal Corps at Camp Gordon, Georgia. After training, he wassent to Korea to serve from 1951 to 1952. He received an honorable discharge atCamp Crowder, Missouri with rank of sergeant.
Charles began a postal career in September 1952 as a Christmas Temporary Clerk.He retired I as Supervisor of Deliver and Collection in September 1984.Friends, Ray & Inez Barrett, Carl & Vernita Hughes, introduced Charles to LillianStrachan who was attending nursing school at General Hospital #2 in 1952.
They married on Monday, June 14, 1954 and had two children, Charles Junior & KarenElaine. After fifty years of marriage, Lillian died on Monday, March 07, 2005.
Charles was thankful to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for watching over himthrough many challenges and accomplishments. He began his journey with Jesusat Trinity A.M.E. Church in Kansas City, Kansas. He continued his journey at Blessed Sacrament, Risen Christ, Saint Louis Parish, and Presentation Church.Charles often volunteered his talents with Lillian at Seton Center Community Center, Greater Kansas City Bowling Association, Boy Scouts of America, and Palestine Community Center.
Charles will be fondly remembered by his brother James McField, children,grandchildren: Kia & Jordan Cannon; nieces: Karla Malabre, Sharon Dean, PamelaMcField, Renee Loper, Rosalyn Hawkins, & Kamille Coria; nephews: James Otis,Gary Strachan, Reginald & Johnny Hawkins, along with numerous relatives andfriends.He was preceded in death by grandparents: Charles & Elizabeth McField, James &Eliza Holmes, parents, brothers: Otis Junior & Karl McField, aunts: Leora Reagor,Lena Holmes, Lucy Braxton, Waver Holmes; uncles: Duffy Reagor, James RussellHolmes, Osborne Grant Holmes; nephew: David Hawkins; cousins: Sherral Wilson,Clarence~ Travestine Love, Joe & Florence Donnelly, Hubert, Audrea, & Alva McLeod.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 08, 2023, 10am at St. Theresa Little Flowers. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will from 9am-10am at the church. Services conducted by Watkins Heritage Chapel. Condolences may be shared on our website.
