Curtis L Simpson, 96 of Kansas City, Mo was born on August 9, 1925, to Earlie and Marie Simpson.
Curtis attended school in Frederick, Oklahoma and later joined the US Marine Corp.
Curtis found his bride, Ima and they married on July 9th, 1954. He was preceded in death by both his parents, his brother Herbert, and his wife, Ima.
He worked for the City of Kansas City Parks & Recreations for more than 30 years retiring in 1988.
He was a lifelong member at Metropolitan Spiritual Church of Christ where he served as a member of the adult choir, male chorus, inspirational choir, Sunday School, healers board, men’s department and attended weekly bible studies. He also served as a groundkeeper for the church for many years.
Curtis or “Papa” as most called him, was an angel sent for many families over his lifetime filling a void in the life of many young people and having a positive impact on their lives. He would feed you, provide clothing, money, and swift discipline if needed. He had a great sense of humor and if you told him that you were grown, he would say “You’re not grown until you get my age!”
Papa loved to dress up, and you would often see him in African dashiki wear no matter what time of year it was. His love for Christ never waivered even into his last days. He would pray with you and for you and he will forever be missed by those who knew and loved him.
Rest well king, job well done!
