Mr. Ernest "Ernie" Jones, Jr.

Ernest Cornell "Ernie" Jones, Jr., was born on January 26, 1958 to the union of Ernest C. Jones, Sr. and Delores (Ramzy) Jones in Kansas City, Missouri. He was the first of six children born to this union. He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest C. Jones, Sr., two paternal half-sisters, Cassie B. Jones and Earnestine Wright.

Ernest was affectionately called TC "Top Cat" by his classmates. He was a graduate of Manual High School class of 1976. He was a dominant track star who knew how to bring home the gold. He attended Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri. He was a self-employed skilled carpenter for many years. He was currently working at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Ernest was united in marriage to Valencia Kerford in 1987 and to this union two sons were born. Ernest's children and grandchildren were his pride and joy of his life. The legacy of Ernest's kind spirit, passion for sports, love of reading the bible and zest for life will live on through them. He was an inspiration to all who knew him. He could have an engaging conversation with anyone for hours.

Ernie departed this life on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at his home in New Orleans, Louisiana.

He leaves to cherish his memory, two sons, Ernest C. Jones III (Jineane) Murrieta, CA and Ennis Jones, Woodland, CA; his mother, Delores R. Jones, Kansas City, MO; siblings, Michael Jones (Myrna), Edward Jones (Teresa) and DeAndre Jones, all of Kansas City, MO, George Jones (LaQuinta))Maricopa, AZ and Kevin Jones (Cheryl) Kansas City, KS; paternal half siblings, Robert "Tip" Jones, Geneva Walker (Nate), Donnie Jones )Christine), Shirley Ann Kyles, all of Canton, MS, Bonnie Willis, Oklahoma City, OK and Earnest Jackson, Kansas City, MO; grandchildren, Izayah and Zayden Jones, h host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 5, 2023, 10:00am at the Watkins Heritage Chapel.  Service conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel. Condolences may be shared on our website.
