Eugene David Bernard was born to the late David and Evelyn Bernard, June 28, 1928, in Jackson County, Kansas City, Missouri. In addition to his parents; David Drew Bernard, Evelyn Mitchell; one sister, one step brother, one step sister and his step mother proceeded him in death; sister Loretta Bernard(Chapman) Clara Bernard, David Bernard Jr, JoAnn Harness, and Gloria Harness.
It’s never too late to get to know the Lord. Eugene in his elder years was baptized into the body of Christ, January 19, 2014, at the age of 86, after bible classes with the elders at Swope Parkway Church of Christ. He has remained a faithful servant of the Lord until his death.
“Lacy” attended both Lincoln High school and RT Coles Trade School, in 1942, graduating in 1946. While attending RT Coles, he learned his trade in Bricklaying which would sustain him and his family through the years. He enlisted in the Army in 1947 through 1948. Lacy retired in 1991 at the age of 62, but continued as a Bricklayer as an Independent Contractor, remaining active and keeping his skills sharp. He was awarded a Plague from his Union Organization for being one of the longest living Bricklayers in Kansas City, 70 years as a Bricklayer.
Upon discharge from the Army, Lacy married Emily Jean Thomas in 1948; that loving union gave them five precious children; Donald Bernard (Ilona)from Kansas City KS, Tyree Bernard (Linda) (retired USAF Master Sergeant from Atlanta, GA, Gary Bernard (Mary) (retired USAF Technical Sergeant) from Tucson, AZ, Vicky Bernard from Coonrapids MN, and Dodlee Bernard from Kansas City MO). He also leaves 12 grand children and 24 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grand children and a host of cousins too keep his memory active.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 17, 2024, 11am at Swope Parkway COC Church 5620 Swope Parkway, Kansas City, Mo. Visitation will be from 9am-11am at the church. Interment Blue Ridge Lawn Memorial Gardens. Services conducted by Watkins Heritage Chapel. Condolences may be shared on our website.
