Mr. George Anderson,,Jr. Obituary

Celebrating the Life of George M. Anderson, Jr. May 13, 1933 February 21, 2023

George M. Anderson, Jr., was born in New Brighton, Pennsylvania to George, Sr., and Ethel Crawford Anderson.

He enlisted in the US Army and proudly served his country in the Korean war. After his time in the army, George earned his high school diploma from Wendell Phillips High School in Chicago, Illinois. While in Chicago, he earned an associate degree by taking night classes at Greer Technical Institute, becoming an automotive diesel mechanic. He also received advanced diesel training in Erie, Pennsylvania.

George put his skills to work as a machinist at Santa Fe Railroad in Kansas City, Kansas. He also worked part time as a plumber’s apprentice, later working on his own. Most recently he worked at the Troostwood Banquet Hall until his health began to fail, opening and closing for owner/friend Mr. Haynes.

George had a strong work ethic and always had words of wisdom for the young people in his life. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

George loved to talk and enjoyed family get-togethers and dinners. He was an avid hunter and acquired many trophies from various hunting competitions.

George occasionally took family members on his hunting trips...an experience they will never forget! In 2019 he was awarded a Jeweled Verteran’s Badge of honor by the Grand Lodge of the international Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers for fifty years of loyalty and service.

George was a dedicated member of Second Baptist Church for many years. He faithfully attended Sunday School, a member of the Second Baptist Men and Camp Committees.

George especially loved working at Camp Chappelle, ensuring that the pool and campgrounds were clean, operational and ready for picnics, events and camping experiences for the youth. His parents, siblings Clinton, Betty, Gertrude and Marvin, Sr., daughter Lorri, wives Rosemary, Josephine, Lola, and granddaughter Kelli all preceded him in death. His memory will be cherished by his 100-year-old sister Abbie; daughters Leslie and Lisa; stepchildren Kevin (Carmell), Jane (Reginald), Matthew (Monique) , Monika and Mary, 13 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, best friend and hunting buddy Sonny, Godson Joe, close friend Sam, In-laws, nephews, nieces, cousins, and a host of special friends and co-workers. Rest well daddy, dad, pawpaw, grandpa, gramps!
