Mr. Harold Manlove Obituary

Harold Jerome Manlove, 84, of Kansas City, Mo died of complications of renal failure on 04/04/2023 at the Kansas City Hospice House.  Harold was born July 12, 1938 in St. Louis, Missouri to Isaac Jerome Manlove and Gertrude Madlyn Hardiman Manlove. Harold was born Harold Douglas Manlove but was later change to Harold Jerome Manlove so his name could be a reflect his father’s name.

Harold attended Lincoln High School but left school early to join the military. Harold received his GED after joining the United States Air Force in 1955 where he tried to become a pilot but due to asthma he became an aircraft mechanic.   As an aircraft mechanic, you travel with your plane, which allowed him to be stationed in Alaska and travel thru Europe until his tour ended in 1959.

After the military, Harold had a few jobs, cab driver, security guard, but becoming an over the road truck driver was his passion for 30 years.  After retiring from the trucking industry Harold lived in Florida and after marrying Katherine, they lived in Houston, Texas for a few years and then returned to Kansas City.  Harold believed in his father’s work ethic, “when you stop working you die” so he went back to work for Tuesday Morning unloading trucks and assembling furniture until he retired again in 2019 at the age of 80.

Harold married 5 times, twice to Mary Catherine Watkins and the couple parented 4 children, step-daughter Linda Manlove-Braxton (Roosevelt), Harold Manlove, Jr., Demona "Jackie" Manlove -Toney (Willis), and Jonathan P. Manlove, Sr, (Arletha). Harold married Betty Jean Sears and together they adopted William "Billy" Manlove (Annette) and Robert "Bobby" Manlove (Twila). Harold also married Emma Louise, and they moved to Orlando, Florida for several years.  Later in life, Harold met and married the love of his life, Katherine Rogers Dayton.  Harold cherished his step-sons Robert Harper and Jeffery Dayton (Dayna).

As a teen, Harold enjoyed working on cars and then racing them with his friends.  Harold loved listening to country music and was part of the church choir and audio-visual team after marrying Katherine at Friendship Baptist Church.

Preceding Harold in death was his beloved mother Madlyn, his father Isaac Jerome “IJ” and wife of 20 years, Katherine Manlove. 

Harold leaves memories for his remaining family including his siblings Madlyn Chinn (Tammy) Kansas City, MO, Dionne Cox, Huntington Beach, CA, Jeron "Jerry" Manlove (Beverly) Kansas City, KS; Chevonne Manlove, Chicago, IL; His children, Linda Manlove-Braxton (Roosevelt) Kansas City, MO; Harold Manlove, Jr, Kansas City, MO; Demona "Jackie" Manlove-Toney (Willis) Kansas City, MO; Jonathan P, Manlove, Sr, (Arletha) Kansas City, MO; William "Billy" Manlove (Annette) Kansas City, MO;  Robert "Bobby" Manlove (Twila) Raymore, MO; Jeffery Dayton (Dayna) Kansas City, MO; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 8, 2023 at 2:00 PM at the Watkins Heritage Chapel.  Internment services will be held at a later date at Fort Leavenworth Military Cemetery.
