Mr. Hubert A. Ferguson

Hubert A Ferguson was born May 7, 1950, at Queen of the World Hospital, in Kansas City, Missouri.  He was the first born of the union between Yvonne Beverly Ferguson and Hubert A Ferguson, Sr.  “Sonny”, as Hubert Jr was lovingly nicknamed, was noticed to have a delay, both physically and mentally, and was taken to Children’s Mercy Hospital for intensive work-up and was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, among other diagnoses.  Hubert started on the long road of surgical improvement for his various and sundry ailments, and by the age of 12, had undergone 10 major surgical procedures.  Hubert was the epitome of a great and compliant patient.  He in addition, was started in the school system in the KC Metro area and attended R.J. Delano, School for Disabilities.

Hubert attended church, and was raised in the Catholic Church, and was baptized at St. Monica’s in the 50’s, here in Kansas City.  He was a happy neighborhood kid, using his crutches and leg braces as equipment to gain a physical edge with the fellow block neighborhood kids(smile).  He had a sense of humor, a warm and engaging smile, and a love for music with a beat, his favorite artists included Michael Jackson and Ray Charles!  He worked as an employee at Special Services for Northwest Community for many years, and he loved to go to work, and even had a girlfriend, Nicole.  He had many caregivers and medical staff, who provided exemplary care, at Higginsville Habilitation Center, over many decades.

Hubert passed away on Wed., June 16, 2021 in Lexington, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert (May 28, 1929-June 27, 2012) and Yvonne (Feb. 14, 1931-

Sept. 9, 1992), grandparents Harry, Ethel and Clara, Aunts Natalie, Carieta, Ethel, Joyce and Gloria.  As a devoted brother, he leaves to celebrate his life:  second mother Grace Ferguson, a brother Dr. Brett Ferguson (sister-in-law Dr. Rita Burnett), Aunt Melba Tilmon, stepbrother Robert Cates and stepsister Patrice Brown, niece Brittny Ferguson(daughter Mykel) and nephew Brett Ferguson Jr(son Tarek). and many more extended family members and friends.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, 11:00am at Watkins Heritage Chapel. Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery.  Service conducted by Watkins Heritage Chapel. Condolences may be shared on our website. This facility requires social distancing and face coverings indoors.
