Mr. James Lloyd "Sonny'' Parks entered into eternal rest, surrounded by family, at his home in Kansas City, Missouri on May 17, 2023.
He was born to the late Charlie Bell and Buddy Hervey on February 4, 1944, in Plumerville, Arkansas and was the fourth child out of nine children. He graduated from Eastside High School in his hometown of Plumerville, Arkansas and afterwards moved to Kansas City, Missouri.
James met Cornelia Sanders and they were married on January 11, 1965. This union produced five children. Mr. Parks worked as a cook at the Muehlebach Hotel Restaurant in downtown Kansas City, Missouri before taking a position with Armco Steel as an Assembly Worker. He retired from there after many years of dedicated and faithful service. Mr. Parks operated his own Waste Removal business as well as selling watermelons. Sonny loved to hunt, fish, horseback riding, and taking care of his grandchildren.
He will be fondly remembered as being a supportive and loving family member and friend. James leaves to mourn his passing and carry his legacy, his wife, Cornelia Parks of Raytown, MO, one son, James L. Parks, Jr (Nikki), Sweet Springs, MO, four daughters, Cassandra I. Wolfe, of Kansas City, MO, Gewanda Parks of Raytown, MO, and Charlotte M. Parks and Christina N. Miller (LeJuan) both of Kansas City, MO, one brother, Walter Hervey, Jr (Jean) of Plumerville, AK, three sisters, Betty Jean Williams of Plumerville, AK, Shirley Williams (Lee) of Kansas City, MO, and Menthia Auster of Conway, AK, twenty eight grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives as well as loving friends. James was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Donnie Ray Hervey, three sisters, Virginia Moore McCay, Juanita Fletcher, and Sandra Faye Hervey and his best friend George Anderson.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 3, 2023, 11am at Watkins Heritage Chapel. Private Disposition. Visitation will be from 10am-11am at the chapel. Services conducted by Watkins Heritage Chapel. Condolences may be shared on our website.
