Joseph Stokes, born September 19, 1939, to Damon and Inola Stokes in Akins, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2024., surrounded by his loving wife, children, and grandchildren. His departure from this world is preceded by his parents and siblings: Bobby, Sterling, Harold, Roy Stokes, and Christine Tucker.
Joseph served his country with honor and distinction as a Sergeant 1st Class in the United States Army, where he cultivated his expertise in culinary a passion that would stay with him throughout his life.
In 1968, he crossed paths with his beloved Helen Marie, and the two embarked on their union in marriage on June 6, 1970, marking the beginning of a beautiful journey filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support.
Following his military service, Joseph ventured into various career paths showcasing his versatility and entrepreneurial spirit. He transitioned into the automotive industry as a car salesman before carving his path as an entrepreneur. He founded Marie’s Family Center a thrift store and an ice cream parlor was located at 3631 Troost, Kansas City, Mo., leaving a mark on the community he cherished.
Joseph’s faith was an integral part of his life, having accepted the Lord Jesus Christ at an early age and receiving baptism.
He was not only a dedicated professional but also a devoted family man. He was a pillar of strength and wisdom to his wife, Helen Marie, and their children: Balenda, Debra, Jesse (Rhonda), Mark, Carla, Marla, and Paula. His legacy extends through his ten grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren who will forever treasure his memory. His love knew no bounds, and his presence brought warmth and joy to all who knew him.
To cherish his memory Joseph leaves his wife Helen Marie, sister Sharon Moody his children, ten grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren brother-in-law David Edmond (Lisa) and a vast community of nieces, nephews, friends, and acquaintances whose lives he touched with his kindness and unwavering spirit. Joesph’s passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, but his memory will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and generosity.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, April 10, 2024, 10:30am at Paseo Baptist Church 2501 The Paseo, Kansas City, Mo., visitation 9 am. Interment Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kansas.
