Mr. Lewis Smith Obituary

Lewis Adell Smith was born on December 17, 1946, Kansas City, KS to the union of Louis and Elma Lee Smith. Lewis was preceded in death by his father, mother, youngest sister Cynthia and his youngest son Cedric Smith. Lewis was the oldest of four sisters born to this union.

Lewis (aka Poochy) started his education in the KCKS school district attending elementary and Jr high school, until the family moved to Kansas City, Missouri and he attended Central high School graduating in 1964.

While attending Central High School, Poochy was well known around the neighborhood as a great mechanic. If it had wheels and a motor, he could probably fix it. If he couldn’t fix it, he could probably make it run until you could get it fixed!!

Poochy worked for Armco Steel Corporation for only a year before he was drafted into the U.S Army in 1966, serving one tour in Vietnam.

Because Poochy had the ability to tear a motor apart and put it back together, his mechanic skills excelled, but this time it was Army Trucks and Tanks.

After completing one tour of service in Vietnam, Poochy returned to Armco steel for a year before obtaining employment with the City of KC as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic.

Poochy’s career as a mechanic ended when he was injured, doing what he loved in August of 1989.

Lewis departed this life on January 8, 2023, at the Grandview Life Care Center.

He leaves to cherish his memory, children; Kevin Lewis, Kimberly Harrison, and Mark Reed; 5 grandkids; 8 great grandkids; Sisters; Linda Hart, Rhonda Mosby (Herman) and Joyce Smith. A host of nieces and nephews along with many cousins. Poochy was the oldest of over 100 grandchildren on his maternal side.
