Mark Lee Tatum III departed on his next journey on April 1st, 2023 surrounded by his family.
Mark was born to the union of Mark Tatum Jr. and Carla (Tucker) Tatum on January 09th 1976 in Kansas City, Missouri.
Mark was an exceptional student. He was educated in the Center School District and was later admitted into The University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Medicine. While attending medical school he was selected for the prestigious Vernon Davidson Scholarship for his leadership, passion and academic talent. He graduated UMKC with a degree in biology and later continued his enthusiasm for learning by obtaining a Masters in Business Management from the University of Phoenix. He received several academic scholarships and awards throughout his educational career, most notably as a finalist for the National Academy of Sciences Essay contest.
Mark held many titles in his life, from advocate to entrepreneur, to his most treasured role as a husband and father. He celebrated the birth of his first and only son, Khayman Lee Tatum while attending UMKC. Later, Mark met the love of his life, Kara (Maune) Tatum and from this marriage was blessed with two daughters, Isabella Sade and Aniyah Marie.
Mark had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. often spending his spare time researching topics of interest or reading books to his children. With great enthusiasm for music; he would spend hours debating the philosophical meanings embedded within a song’s lyrics. Mark was an avid skater and could be found at the park practicing a new trick until executing it with precision. He was dedicated to his passions.
Mark was preceded in death by his wife and maternal grandparents Orestie and Iretha Tucker.
Mark’s legacy will carry on forever in the hearts of his mother, father, sister Marchand (Tatum) Jenkins, children, Uncle Orestie Tatum Jr, aunt Du Juan Tucker, and a host of beloved cousins and friends.
A Memorial service will be held Saturday, April 8, 2023, 10am at Watkins Heritage Chapel. Service conducted by Watkins Heritage Chapel. Condolences may be shared on our website.
