Mr. Marvin Jones, Sr. Obituary

Marvin Leroy Jones Sr. was born to the late Wallace B. and Eunice E. Jones on November 1st, 1960, in Kansas City, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents Wallace and Eunice Jones and sister Deborah Jones.  He gave his life to Christ at an early age and attended Starlight Missionary Baptist Church where he served as the Minister of Music for 21 years.

He exhibited musical capabilities quite young with the trumpet being the first of many instruments he learned to play.  He took lessons at the Charlie Parker Foundation.  He graduated from Paseo High School in 1978 and attended The University of Arkansas Pine Bluff that same year with a full ride scholarship where he majored in music. He was apart of the marching band while there.

He worked various jobs including the Ford Motor Company however music was his passion. He was a prolific musician; self-taught in playing the piano, drums, guitar and upright bass just to name a few.

He recorded and toured with several musicians from the likes of Charles Earland and Everette Devan.  He also had numerous performance opportunities with Jay McShann, Ray Charles, Queen Bey and jazz legend Von Freeman during his brief stay in Chicago. He was apart of the Mutual Musicians Foundation as well as the Summer Jazz Institute.  He will be missed for his sense of humour, his love of family and his amazing musical genius.

Sunset came for Marvin Leroy Jones Sr. on March 12th, 2022, peacefully with loving family by his bedside at the Saint Luke’s Hospice House in Kansas City, MO to be with his Lord.

He leaves to cherish one son Marvin Leroy Jones Jr., 2 grandchildren Mariah Love and Zion Leroy Jones, one brother Ronald Jones (Judy), three sisters Cynthia Bradley (Oliver), Constance Weber and Cheryl Jones.  His special friend Thelma Anderson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral Service will be held Saturday, March 26, 2022, 11:00am at Watkins Heritage Chapel. Private Disposition. Visitation will be from 10am-11am at the chapel. Service conducted by Watkins Heritage Chapel. Condolences may be shared on our website.
