Oliver Pleasure was born to the parents of Willie Pleasure and Elizabeth Harvey.
He was educated in Kansas City Public School system where he attended R T Coles High School.
He joined Metropolitan Spiritual Church of Christ at the age of seven and was active as an altar boy. He was a lifelong member of Metropolitan.
Oliver was a member of the VFW Post 2069 for many years. As an active member of Post 2069 he was involved in the drumline where he played the saxophone. As a member he also participated in many community service projects.
Oliver enjoyed music, spending time with his family, doing DIY home improvement projects and tinkering in his garage.
Oliver Pleasure was a United States Air Force Veteran. He was stationed in London, England, Duluth, Minnesota and other bases where he worked as a mechanic. After being honorably discharged from the Air Force he worked as a florist. He also worked for Colony Paint Company for many years. He worked in the family business “Willie’s” with his father Willie Pleasure, which was located on the corner of 12th and Woodland. He was affectionately known as Mr. Oliver. He eventually took over the business from his father and continued to operate that business in this location for over 15 years. In 1982 he purchased land and built a multi business establishment which included a bar, liquor store and small grocery store on the corner of 12th and Park. He operated these businesses for 38 years. He was known throughout the community as a very astute businessman that was always willing to help those in need.
He was married to Marilyn Pleasure on February 8, 1969, to this union lasted 24 years. They were supportive of each other until the day of his passing.
Oliver was preceded in death by both parents, his two brothers Roland Hall, Donald Hall and sons-in-law Clem Wright Jr. and Michael Collier. He is survived by a sister Tyra Williams. Three children, Lisa Wright, Terry Pleasure and Donita Collier. Five grandchildren, Tamekia (Jeremiah) Neal, Denise Wright, Stephanie (Michael) Jones, Tyra Collier and Shyln Collier. He has seven great grandchildren, Nyanna Wright, Jailyn Robinson, Jeremiah Neal Jr., Michaela Jones, Journi Robinson, Jamiah Neal and Delani Jones. Nieces Kristina Toney and Loleeta Ford
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday January 27, 2024, 11am at Metropolitan Spiritual Church of Jesus Christ 1231 Garfield Ave KC, MO. Visitation will be from 9am-11am at the church.
