Mr. Raymond Doakes, Jr. Obituary

Raymond George Doakes, Jr. was born October 5, 1960, in Kansas City, Missouri to James Marvin Hill and Lucille Hill.  He was adopted by Carrie and Raymond G. Doakes, Sr. into his forever family.

Growing up in the church, Raymond instantly took to the church choir. During high school, he assisted in directing the choir at Paseo Baptist Church and participated in his school choir at Bishop Lillis High School. Raymond became an active member of Greystone Missionary Baptist Church where he played the piano and joined the choir.

Raymond attended Sanford B. Ladd, D.A. Holmes, Father Benedict Justice, and Bishop Lillis High School.  He graduated from high school in 1978, and studied at the University of Missouri at Columbia, and the F.A.A. Academy, Air Traffic Controller Technical Training in Oklahoma City, OK. He later worked for the Social Security Administration where he met his former wife, Teresa. From this union, they were blessed with two daughters, Caresa and Terray.

He left the Social Security Administration to work as an Information Technology Specialist for the United States Department of Agriculture where he later retired. During his 33 years of government service, Raymond received many accolades and awards including outstanding support service and was instrumental in the implementation of new software.

Raymond was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan. No football game was complete without a platter from Gates BBQ. He was an avid fixer, and his toolbox was always ready. His beloved daughters and grandchildren inherited his ability to face each day with a smile and laughter.

Raymond peacefully departed this life Thursday January 19, 2023, at St. Luke’s Hospice House. He was preceded in death by his parents Carrie and Raymond Doakes Sr; his stepfather Marion Oates; stepsister, Mary Maxine Oates; and his sister, Lacresha Hill.

He leaves to cherish his memory: two daughters, Caresa Doakes-Yarbrough (Vaughn) and Terray Doakes; two grandsons, Dominion Yarbrough, and Hamilton Doakes; a sister, Ramonda Doakes; three brothers, Joseph Doakes, Eugene Hill and Michael Oates Sr. (Wilhemina), Vivian Darlene Counce, Alfred Davis, Anita Davis, Deborah Olive, Darryl Olive, M.
