Terry Lee Scott 57 of Kansas City, Missouri passed away on Sunday, November 14, 2021, at St. Luke’s East Hospital. Terry was born June 23, 1964, to the union of Robert Henry Scott Jr. and Sarah Scott. He was the oldest child of three to this union. His father preceded him in death. Terry attended classes in the Kansas City Public School District and graduated from Southeast High School class of 1982. He continued his education and graduated with a Bachelor of Education from the University Tennessee, Knoxville and a Master of Education from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
While attending Southeast High School he won multiple state titles in the 100 and 200 meters dash. He held the state of Missouri record for the 100 and 200 meters dash for thirty years. Until one of his own student athletes, whom he coached broke his record. He was highly recruited by multiple colleges in track and field but chose the University of Tennessee Knoxville. Terry excelled to a world class athlete competing and travelling around the world and representing team USA. He also participated in multiple Olympic trials and world games. He became a gold medalist in the 1983 at the world championships in Helsinki. In 1985 he became the NCAA 100 meter champion.
Terry was one of a few people to compete in two sports, Sprinter in track and field and a Tight End in football during his collegiate years. He was a member of the Coaches and Athlete Hall of Fame in the State of Missouri, but most notably he was inducted into the University of Tennessee Hall of Fame. He taught and coached at multiple schools including Ruskin High School, Raytown Middle and Raytown South High School and University Academy.
Leaving to mourn and cherish his memories: Menka Scott (wife); his daughter Mikah Scott. His mother Sarah Scott, his siblings James Scott (LaTanya) and Rochelle Butler (David). He leaves a host of uncles, aunts, nephews and nieces, family and friends and friends who he considered to be family.
Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2021, 11:00am at Metropolitan Spiritual Church. Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9am-11am at the church. Service conducted by Watkins Heritage Chapel. Condolences may be shared on our website.
