Wilbert “Bill” Eubanks was born May 31,1930 to Eursel and Magglen Eubanks in Rocheport, Missouri. He attended public school in Hillsdale, Missouri and later attended W.W. Yates and R.T. Coles in Kansas City, Missouri.
Wilbert accepted Christ at an early age and was recruited into the United States Marine Corps in 1950. He served in the Korean Conflict as a combat engineer until a shrapnel wound to his leg brought him back to Kansas City in 1951.
In 1956, Wilbert married Gayle LaRue Hardwick of Kansas City, Missouri. To this union a son, Reginald D. Eubanks was born. He supported his son in all his endeavors and was instrumental to him earning an Army Reserve Officer’s Training Corp Scholarship.
Wilbert served as a construction worker and fireman during his working career. As a construction worker, he specialized in carpentry and helped build many of the suburbs around the Greater Kansas City Area. He simultaneously served in the Kansas City Fire Department for 30 years and retired from Station 18 in 1989.
After retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his family, photography, gardening, barbequing and helping friends and family with his unrivaled ability to renovate or repair anything. His skillset and humorous ways propelled him to be a crowd favorite for all who knew him. “Uncle Bill’s” Kansas City spirit will always be with us.
Wilbert was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers; Willis, Joe and Floyd Eubanks.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his son Reggie of Honolulu, Hawaii; brother, Rev. Dr. Dewey Eubanks, Sr. (Elizabeth) of Muskegon, Michigan; sister, Grace Eubanks of Kansas City, Missouri; special nieces, Kristen Kountz and Paula Eubanks of Kansas City, Missouri; natural grand-daughter, Chelsea Heskett of Wichita, Kansas; and a host of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, loving relatives and friends who loved and will truly miss him.
Funeral Service will be held Friday, December 3, 2021, 11:00am at the Watkins Heritage Chapel. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10am-11am at the chapel. Service conducted by Watkins Heritage Chapel. Condolences may be shared on our website.
