Lillian Glenora Pitts-Tyler was born November 1, 1934 in Kansas City, Missouri. She was fourth of five children born to the union of Albert and Glenora Pitts. Her parents and four siblings have preceded her in death.
Lillian attended RT Cole and Lincoln high school in Kansas City graduating in 1952. She met her husband at the age of 18. She was working at Velvet Freeze Ice cream shop on 18th & Vine Street when she met the love of her life walking down the street in his Army fatigue. It was love at first site then it was matrimony within two years. On June 12, 1955 she married B.Harrison Tyler Jr. and they shared a full and robust life together until his death in 1979. This union was blessed with three children. Marian E. Wilkins, Ben H. Tyler, Lynne M. Tyler.
Lillian worked at Betty Rose suit and coat factory for several years than after having her second child she decided to stay at home with her children Marian and Ben. Then the youngest child Lynne was born, she then returned back to work in 1975 for the state helping senior citizens. She worked for Department of Energy and later retiring from (OCC) Office of Comptroller Currency in 1995.
Lillian was a faithful member of Ebenezer AME Church for over 65 years. She served on various committees at the church such as Ebenezer AME Missionary Society, Usher Board No. 2 and other organizations such as American Business Women Association. (ABWA., ) Lincoln High/RT Cole National Alumini Assn., Women’s Civic Group of Independence, and the Church Women United.
She and Harrison raised their children in both Willis Chapel and Ebenezer AME Church and in Christian spirit-filled home. She was an attentive and loving, full of fun, never met a stranger because she was always “Fantastic”.
Lillian was close to all her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephew. She loved sharing stories, going to casinos, traveling, shopping at the finest stores and had a very unique connection to children. When you met Ms. Fantastic you met a lifetime friend.
She leaves fantastic memories to her one special brother Harlan Pitts, Kansas City, MO; Three loving children, Marian E. Tyler-Wilkins, Lees Summit, MO; Ben H. Tyler(Dimple), Los Angeles, CA; and Lynne M. Tyler, Kansas City, Missouri; Three grandchildren Bryant Wilkins; Kansas City, Mo; Latisha Cole(Randall); Lee Summit, Mo; Jonathan Tyler, Los Angeles, CA; Four great-grandchildren, London, Mya, Mariah Cole and Bryanna Wilkins.; a host of special nieces and nephews. Several dearest friends Delores Elliott, Virginia Edwards (deceased), Shirley Fulton, Myrlon Edwards, Frances Cofield and Jackie Wheeler. One special cousin Shirley King. With host of family and friends.
Lillian was simply “Fantastic” person and women of God who made many friendships throughout her life, Until we meet again, “See you in the funny papers; After while crock-a-dile.
Funeral Service will be held Friday, January 28, 2022, 10:00am at Ebenezer AME Church. Interment Ft. Leavenworth National Cemetery, LVNKS. Visitation will be from 9am-10am at the church. Service conducted by Watkins Heritage Chapel. Condolences may be shared on our website.
