Mrs. Mary Brown Obituary

Mary Lillian Lewis Brown passed away peacefully, at the age of 99,  on January 15, 2024 at Hidden Lake Care Center in Raytown, MO.

Mary was born on March 12, 1924 to Mr. Charles Lewis and Mrs. Stella (Wheeler) Lewis in Jacksonville, Illinois. She was her parents’ only child. She attended area schools until her early teenage years.

On September 9, 1939 Mary was united in marriage to Mr. Turner Brown, Sr. resident of Kansas City, MO. Three children were born from their union: two boys Turner Jr. and Eugene and one girl Teresa. Mary worked as a stay at home mother until the late 1950’s.  Mary, affectionately known as “Fats” moved to Chicago and worked as a presser at a laundry. A few years later, she met her long term partner Mr. Tommy Weeks (d). Mary spent the next two decades enjoying life with her family and friends.  She loved to host card parties and potlucks and looked forward to visits from her grandchildren.

Mary returned to Kansas City in the early 1990’s and was a resident of Pemberton Heights. She enjoyed watching soap operas and the Kansas City Chiefs, playing Bingo, and socializing in the community room downstairs.

Mary was welcomed into paradise by her parents, husband, son (Eugene), and son in law (James Williams). She leaves her son Turner Brown, Jr., daughter Teresa Williams, daughter in laws Marva and Suzette, daughter in love Michelle Vann and family, eight grandchildren: a host of great grandchildren, relatives and friends (Jackie Gordon).
