Mrs. Ruth Rhodes Obituary

Ruth was born on May 1, 1945, in Kansas City, Missouri to Louise and Wilbert “Pokey” Carr.  She was the oldest of nine children, followed by Carol, Dorothy, Brad, Jan, Darren, Artist, Nikki, and Rodney.  She was a life-long resident of the Kansas City, Missouri metropolitan area. She enjoyed listening to Old School R & B music particularly Frankie Beverly & Maze and The Whispers.  She loved supporting her children and grandchildren’s activities. She was a God-fearing woman who touched many lives.  Her family will remember her as a kind and loving person who enjoyed spending time with them.

On October 18, 1963, Ruth married her love, Rudolph (III).  Together they had four children – Robin, Rudolph (IV), Rorick, and Reiko.   They enjoyed 60 years of marital bliss.  She was the matriarch of the family who led with strength and a gentle soul.  When you were in a bind you knew you could count on her love and support. She discouraged her children from giving her presents because she wanted them to retain that money for their financial needs.  The only holiday she willingly accepted gifts was on Mother’s Day.  Being a mother was a badge of honor for her.

Ruth was dedicated to government service.  Following her graduation from Central High School in Kansas City, she gained employment at the Internal Revenue Service.  For 40 years she worked as a tax examiner until her retirement.

Ruth Ann Rhodes, age 78, of Lee’s Summit, MO, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2023.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Dorothy Harris and Nikki Carr. She is survived by her husband, Rudolph (III); her daughters, Robin (Stephen) and Reiko (Chris); her sons Rudolph IV (Valerie) and Rorick; siblings, Carol, Brad (Stephanie), Jan, Artist, Darren, and Rodney; her nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
