Ms. Annie Smith Obituary

Annie Lois Smith was born in Anguilla, Mississippi on February 25, 1945, to the late Spencer Gleese (father) and Savannah Gleese (mother).

Our mother joined Gregg Tabernacle AMEC around 1962 or 1963 she loved her church family and no matter what was going on in church she was there. Our mother held several positions, but she loved singing in the choir and driving the church van the most, so not being able to attend this last year in a half hurt her.

Momma never really shared her life growing up, so it’s not a lot for me to share about her younger days. Momma loved being around her family, especially her grand and great grandchildren.

Before she passed, she was blessed with a new great grandson Amir on September 21, 2023, we were so happy she met him before she passed. Growing up mom would get us up early on the weekends to go with her to garage sales and to collect cans, she would stop the car when she saw a can by the curb, she would tell us to get out and grab it.  I would jump out and get that can so fast so no one would see me. Christmas for us was awesome, she didn’t wrap our gifts, she would have everything put together and sitting under the tree unwrapped, she made it so special. We moved to Texas during my high school year and my brother’s middle school year, we moved back to Kansas City, Mo; in 1986.

Mom started working at Marsh Sun fresh on Mills Street where she retired from working in the bakery. Momma loved the casino, playing her numbers and those scratch offs. Momma, you will truly be missed.

Annie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Roy Lee Smith Sr., and great grandson Edward Dewayne Burns Jr...

Smith leaves to mourn her passing one daughter, Jacqueline (Edward) one son Roy Lee Smith Jr. both of Kansas City, Missouri; nine grandchildren, Edward (Regina), Roriele both of Kansas City, Mo; Tinika (Dominique), Rosalyn both of Raymore, Missouri; Jamilla of Raytown, Mo; Raven of Memphis, Tn; and Roy of Lee’s Summit, Mo; Ashley and Tony of Dallas, Tx; 14 great grandchildren Lyrik of Kansas City, Mo; Raiden, Jaden, Taylor, Mariyah and Marlynn of Raymore, Mo; Jeremiah, Jael, Juni and Judah of Raytown, Mo; and Amir of Memphis, Tn; Sh’Rell, Jarius and Jeriun of Dallas, Tx; Annie Smith also leaves her five sisters Shirley White, Katherine Gleese and Frankie Jean Bullock of Kansas City, Mo; Florence Ransburg, of Detroit, MI; Prudence Wilson, of  Jefferson, AR; one brother Spencer Gleese also of Kansas City, Mo; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
