Ms. Cheryl Beatty Obituary

Cheryl D. Beatty was the second of four children born to Bernard R. and Bertha M. Northern Beatty on July 26, 1952 in Kansas City, KS. The family moved to Kansas City, Mo where she attended Greenwood Elementary and J S Chick Elementary, Southeast Jr. High School, graduating from Southeast Sr. High School. While at Southeast Sr. some of her many activities included musician (cello), Thespian, and she excelled academically.


Cheryl was baptized at Friendship Baptist Church by Rev. I. H. Henderson Jr. at a young age and was active in many activities including the Youth Choir before starting her extended educational journey. She believed in God and no matter where life would take her, her belief did not falter. The University of Kansas was the source of her first degree, a Bachelor of Social Work (1973) and later earned a MBA from California State University (1983) Dominquez Hills, just outside of Carson City, California. Initially moving to Las Angeles in 1976 to join friends, she decided to stay after those friends voyaged to different places in the country.


Her work tenure includes Carte Blanche LLC as a Human Resource Manager before beginning computer training. She was responsible for converting several law firms in the city to computers. Her other work endeavors included working as an Office Manager, Technical Support Specialist and Paralegal for several law firms. In between, she taught children computer skills, did proposal writing, ran a youth center, and earned a real estate license. The license served her well in that she has owned multiple homes. Contemporary Data Bureau was the business Cheryl created and nurtured, serving as a data consultant, and managing information for local attorneys.


Cheryl worked for Greenberg Traurig LLP, retiring in November 2022 with over 19 years of Service. Then, after making California her home for over forty-seven years, she made the moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 2022. In addition to her many entrepreneurial and professional endeavours, Cheryl was an avid reader, liked investigating family history, visiting museums, enjoyed finding black art, and loved to travel. She loved her family and friends and was generous with her preaching and teaching on health, wealth, knowledge and how things ought to be done!


Cheryl transitioned to be with God November 14, 2023. She was preceded in death by her grandparents William P. Northern and Ruthie Northern, Mother Bertha Northern-Beatty and Father Bernard R. Beatty.


She leaves to remember her hilarity and perseverance her siblings Bernadette Beatty Walker Harris (Melton), Brian W. Beatty, Bruce B. Beatty (Elisa Gail), Algy Giles Mason (Larry). Nephews W. Ryan Walker (Margo), Christopher E. Beatty (Davina). Great nieces and nephews Christopher D. Beatty, DavYona Lyn-Marie Beatty, Brian William-Lee Beatty, Briona Ann Beatty, Ian Edward Walker, Aaron Emmett Beatty, Anesia Lashay Beatty, Anesia Lashay Beatty, and Arryhea Beatty. And a host of family and friends. She also leaves lifelong friends Ramonda Doakes, Elizabeth Johnson, Angela Bennett and Cari Lang-Acey, and her adopted California family Vicki Matthews and her children Chris Matthews and Monica Carter friend from Southern Carolina


Funeral Services will be held Friday, December 15, 2023, 12 noon at Watkins Heritage Chapel, interment in Maple Hill Cemetery. Visitation 11 am. Services will be streaming on
