Ms. Frances Chapman Obituary

Our beloved Frances L Chapman 87 of Wyandotte, Ks was called home on April 8th, 2023.  She was born on June 20, 1935 in Kansas City, Ks to her parents Lorene Barnett and Quinten Adams. She was proceeded in death by her grandmother Julia Barnett, brother Foster Glenn Riley, son Rujum Mahdee aka Lonnie Cobb Jr., her grandson Dale Lamont Chapman and great-grandson Kabron Chapman.  

Frances was raised and educated in the Kansas City Missouri School District. She attended Grant and Stowe, Northeast Jr., R.T Coles and completed her studies at Lincoln High School.

Frances was a hard worker employed at Muehlebach Hotel, City Hall as an elevator operator possibly greeting each of the riders with her glorious smile. In 1974 she began her career at the United States Post Office where she remained until she retired.   

She started her journey with Bethel Baptist in Kansas City, Ks. She was a proud member of Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a member on the usher board. Later on she joined Oasis Baptist as a faithful member until her health declined. 

Frances was joined in marriage to Lonnie Cobb in 1952. During this union she conceived her first-born son. Frances later married Ralph Chapman to this union seven children were born and raised in the home. After their amicable divorce they remained friends raising their children until his death in 1993. Later in life Francis met Mr. Robert Carr whom she referred to as the love of her life.

Frances enjoyed spending time making porcelain figures and you can find them spread throughout her home. While working at the post-office she organized a yearly family trip to World's of Fun to include all her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling with her mother, Mr. Robert and friends. She recorded visiting over 34 states throughout the years and collected wonderful memories through pictures also with souvenirs. She always provided support and love to her family and was more than happy to be the central figure

The memory of our beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great great-grandmother will be forever carried in the hearts of her family.  Frances is survived by her mother Lorene Riley, brother James Riley (Marietta), sister Norma Jean Dickinson, daughters L'Tanya Renee Hairston, Michelle Witherspoon, Deirdre Thomas and Shawndell Chapman-Doolin (David), sons Reginald Chapman, Eric "Ricky" Chapman, Randall Chapman. Francis also leaves to cherish her memory and beautiful smile 96 grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Her very close friends Ms. Mildred Murrell, Ms. Lela, Ms. Claudia Lock, Ms. Doris, Ms. Hattie and Ms. Edwina. Her nephews, nieces and a host of family and friends.

Funeral Service will be held Saturday, April 22, 2023,11:00am at Watkins Heritage Chapel. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9am-11am at the chapel. Service conducted by Watkins Heritage Chapel. Condolences may be shared on our website.
