Ms. Gwendolyn Ray

Gwendolyn Ray was born on November 6, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska.

She attended Long and Howard Kennedy Elementary Schools in Omaha and Central High School be fore moving to Muskogee, Oklahoma where she graduated from Manual Training High School.

Gwendolyn continued her education and graduated from Kansas State Teacher’s College, Pittsburg, Kansas (Pittsburg State Teacher’s University).

She was a teacher in the Kansas City, mo. Public School District for many years retiring from Westport Senior High School.

She was member of St. Stephen Baptist Church for over seventy years, former Department Superintendent and Teacher of the M & G Sunday School, also the Secretary of Lois Missionary Circle, member of the Extended Care Ministry and was honored as a Pillar of the St. Stephen Baptist Church.

Gwendolyn was also a member and volunteer at Palestine Senior Activity Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband Richard L. Ray.

She leaves to cherish her memory two sons Rodney M. Ray (Carolyn), Walter D. Ray and one daughter Angela Ray Malik. Four granddaughters Tahirah Malik, Christina Pettus, Kamilah Robinson and Atiya Sanders, ten great-grandchildren and a play daughter Patricia Sampson, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral Service will be held Saturday, December 11, 2021, 11:00am at Watkins Heritage Chapel. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9am-11am at the chapel. Service conducted by Watkins Heritage Chapel. Condolences may be shared on our website.
