Ms. Nellie Bland Obituary

Nellie Mae Bland 81, born December 22, 1941 to Ida Mae Wright and Eddie Wright in Helena Arkansas, just outside Little Rock, AR. Her father, Eddie Wright bought Nellie and her brother, Sylvester and sister Aretha to Kansas City to live with relatives, Mary Gant, her grandmother. Later on in life Nellie had 4 children. Darrell, Willie, Debra, and Wayne & his wife, Bridgette Cubit.

Nellie was the oldest of 22 siblings. Her sister Barbara Ann and sister Joyce Ann are right here with her from Detroit. She also had 12 grandchildren along with 10 great grandchildren. Nellie retired from the Olathe School District. She was the matriarch of the family. She took care of any of her relatives when called upon.

She loved having fun with her brothers and sisters, playing card, going out and listening to music. She loved traveling to Detroit to see her mother and her other brothers and sisters.

Nellie never did any wrong to anyone. She was the nicest person you could ever meet. She had a beautiful smile that all races of people gravitated to her.

She had accepted Christ and was able to attend church, Easter Sunday, 2023.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Mike Murphy, Benard Murphy and Eddie Wright, Jr, and husband, Sammy Bland.

She leaves to cherish her memory:  daughter, Deborah Cubit, sons:  Darrell Cubit (Tracy) and Wayne Cubit (Bridgette),  sisters: Aritha Cunningham (Chuck), Dorothy Shelby, Barbara Roberts, Joyce Murphy (Frank), Sandy Wright, Vernetta Perkins (Jamel), brothers: Tony Murphy and Leon Murphy along with a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Nellie would be so happy that we are all here to celebrate her life!
