Velma Williams was born to Gertrude and Fred Tate on March 17, 1956, in Memphis, Tenn. She was the 11th out of 13 children and 3 minutes older than her twin sister Thelma.
As a child she was very active, she loved to go skating, bike riding, or go fishing with her God Mother.
As a young adult Velma loved the idea of having money so she kept a job, she was always working.
When her twin sister Thelma decided to move to Kansas City with her husband, Velma followed for a better job opportunity. She soon found a job in Kansas City then sent for her two young boys Eras and Zaric who were still in Memphis at the time. At a young age of 22 with two young boys Velma worked hard to provide and make a better life for them.
She soon found love at her job where she met Robert Williams, and they grew close and were in a very committed relationship for 10 years before they decided to marry on March 14, 1987. They adopted a sweet baby girl named Valencia. Their love for children was tremendous. Velma always wanted a little girl and when the opportunity came, she didn’t think twice about being the mother of this little girl.
Velma began working for the IRS in 1980’s and retired in 2018. She enjoyed being retired and spending quality time with her husband, thrift shipping, going to garage sales and visiting their favorite store Cargo Largo.
Velma accepted Christ at a early age and was a member of the old Eastside Missionary Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri.
Velma departed this life on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 in Kansas City, Missouri.
She leaves her loving dedicated husband, her three children, her wonderful brothers and sisters, her amazing grand and great grandchildren and an abundance of extended family and friends.
