NACHOLA GREEN Obituary

Nachola (Nick) Green was born March 25, 1928 to Willie & Verdie Green in Idabell, Oklahoma.  His parents, one brother, William C. Green & one sister, Jean Green proceeded him in death.

            Nachola departed this life January 19, 2021 in Raytown, Missouri.

            Nick attended Penn Elementary School in KCMO, Secondary School at Booker Washington & graduated from Booker Washington High School in Idabell, Oklahoma.  He also attended Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia for two years. He graduated from the University of Mortuary Science in Kansas City, Kansas.

            In 1949, Nick met his lifetime partner Percis (Peggy) Graham. They were united in matrimony one year later on March 25, 1950 & to this union one child was born, Sharon Elaine Green.

            Nick joined the Military in 1949 as a member of Missouri National Guard in KCMO & in 1953 he was drafted into the U.S. Army.  He served two years in the Army during the Korean Conflict & fourteen months overseas in Korea & Japan & was honorably discharged in 1955.

            Nick worked for the U.S. Post Office for 14 years & four years as a mail carrier at the Main Post Office in KC. He transferred to “Railway Mail Service” & worked as a mail clerk for Santa Fe Railroad between Kansas City & Chicago for 10 years. He resigned from mail service in 1965 to work for Watkins Brothers Funeral Home as a licensed Mortician & Funeral Director.

            In 1969 Nick began his employment as a bus operator for privately owned “KC Transit Co.” later known as K.C.A.T.A.  He worked as a bus operator from 1969 to 1975. Nick went on to become the first African American to train in the Information Center & the first black person to work as a schedule maker in the schedule dept. During his years in Management, he worked as a Division Dispatcher, Clerk, Radio Dispatcher, Charter Assistant & Instructor.  He was also Road Supervisor from 1975 to 1981. Nick then was promoted to “Manager of Road Supervision” in 1981 & retained that position until he retired on July 1, 1996. 

            Nick spent his retirement years enjoying life.  His hobbies included fishing with his brother or friends, watching the KC Chiefs, playing cards, dominoes, gardening, & staying busy with yard work at his & his daughter’s house, or just relaxing with his granddaughter.  To know Nick was to love him.  He was strong, family oriented and made anyone in his presence feel welcomed.  Nick had a calm, easygoing spirit & a quick wit that showed through his personality even up until his last days.

Nick accepted Christ at an early age.

            Nick leaves to cherish his memory, one Daughter, Sharon E. Green & one Grand Daughter Kendra E. Green (whom he dearly loved).  Nieces Jasmine Kendall, Monique Jennings, LaKeysha Wright, Heather Green, & Patricia Graham.  Nephews William C. Green II, Courtland Green, Jermaine Threat, William Stanford Graham (Benji), William Stanford Graham II “JR” William Brandon Anthony, & Tyler Anthony.  Cousins, Floyd J. Graham Jr. (Jan) & Erin Graham.

            Many Friends & Past Co-Workers.

 

Services will be held Monday, February 1, 2021, 11 am at Watkins Heritage chapel, visitation 10 am. Interment in Leavenworth National Cemetery.
