Retired Major Reverend Raymond LeRoy Wright was born March 3, 1928 to the Late Bessie Allen and Hennessy Wright. His wife, Charlotte C. Wright also preceded him in death.
He was born in Enid, OK and moved to Chicago, IL when he was a child. He was raised in the church and graduated from Englewood Highschool Chicago, IL. After graduating, he enlisted in the United States Army in 1951. He served 25 years in the US Army where he retired at the rank of Major. After serving in the Army, he moved to Kansas City and worked 10 years in the Marine Corp as a computer programmer.
While working at the Marine Corp, he joined in union with Charlotte C. Washington on March 4, 1973. Through this union they raised 5 children- Evelyn, Nathalene, Teresa/ Diane, Patricia, and Eric as a family. Throughout his life, he served in ministry. While in Kansas City, Raymond joined his wife at Greystone Heights Missionary Baptist Church as a Deacon and then joined Fellowship Baptist Church where he served as a Reverend for over 40 years. He was a Sunday School teacher, he sang in the church choir, and also served on the deacon board before becoming a Reverend. In his leisure time, he enjoyed gardening, family activities, and watching westerns on the television. He also enjoyed playing bridge with club members, vacation cruise traveling and loved all board games.
Retired Major Reverend Raymond LeRoy Wright peacefully drew his last breath on Friday, January 15, 2021. He is survived by: his children Dr. Raymond L. Wright, Gwenita Wright, Jacques Wright, Eric L. Wright all of Chicago, IL; 4 step- children Evelyn R. (Michael) Richardson, Nathalene Washington, Teresa/Diane Doakes, and Patricia A. Washington all of Kansas City, MO; his nine grandchildren Tiffany I. Taylor of Los Angeles, CA, Dr. Raymond L. Wright III, Michelle Wright all of Chicago, IL, Dr. Caresa D. (Vaughn) Yarbrough, Di’Andra S. Washington, Alonzo D. (Jeilea) Coleman, Natesha D. Washington, Terray A. Doakes, all of Kansas City, MO and Afedi R. Wright of Chicago, IL; ten great-grandchildren; six immediate nieces and nephews, Sheryll, Wanda, Latrice, Dewayne, Adic Jr., and Robert; and a host of other nieces, nephews among his extended family and friends.
Services will be held January 29, 2021, 10:30 am at Watkins Heritage Chapel visitation 9 am. Interment in Leavenworth National Cemetery.
