ROBERT SCOTT, JR. Obituary

Robert Henry Scott Jr. 78 of Kansas City, Missouri passed away on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at St. Joseph Hospital. Who was affectionately known as Bob, born on November 17, 1942, in Talladega, Alabama to the union of Robert Henry Sr. and Lula Mae Scott. He was the second child of seven to this union. His parents and four siblings preceded him in death.  In 1950, the family moved to Kansas City, Missouri where Robert attended classes in the Kansas City Public School District and graduated from Manual High School class of 1962.  He was known for his love of track and football and gained the name “Rock.”  He continued his education at Rockhurst University.

He started his lifelong career with the City of Kansas City, Missouri in 1963.  Where he climbed the ranks to become a Superintendent of Parks and Recreation. Kansas City is known for the city of fountains and he had his hand in making those fountains beautiful and recognized all over the world.  Christmas was one of his favorite holidays, he shared and showed that love throughout the city with displays in Swope Park, Gillham Park and various parks throughout the city.  After 31 years of dedicated service, he retired in 1994.

On August 20, 1965 he was united in holy matrimony to Sarah L. (Pat) Johnson and remained married for 55 years.  To this union three children were born Terry, James and Rochelle.   He was a husband, provider, protector, and he opened his heart, arms and home to many.  Most importantly he was Papa.  As he was proud of all his children and grandchildren achievements in athletics. One of the things he was most proud of was his son Terry a member of the Missouri State Track and Field Hall of Fame, but most notably he was inducted into the University of Tennessee Hall of Fame. One of his many past times was hosting family and friends always finding a reason for celebrations.

Those that remain to cherish his memories are Sarah L. Scott (wife); his three children Terry (Menka), James (LaTanya), Rochelle (David), ten grandchildren and one great grandson.  Jameshia Scott, David Butler Jr, Michelle Wattree, Stacie Chatman, Jurnie Scott, Christian Chatman, Jye Scott, Cenea Butler, Taleise Scott, Mikah Scott and Bryland Addison. Sisters Gloria Morgan (Andrew), Patricia Goggins (Lee), Shirley Scott (Curtis) Hiram, GA; Shirley Scott (George). He leaves a host of family and friends and friends who he considered to be family. 

 Memorial Services will be held from 9am to 11am on Saturday, January 9th at Metropolitan Spiritual Church of Jesus Christ 1231 Garfield Ave KCMO 64127. Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
