It is with great sadness the family of Roland “Rip” Young Sr. announces his passing on April 28, 2020 at age 97. He was born on March 12, 1923 to Jeff and Juanita Young in Kansas City Mo. Both parents preceded him in death. His sister Marion Virginia McCoy also preceded him in death. He married his forever love Bettye (Hendricks) Young, sharing over 70 years together living in the home in which he helped build until she passed in March 5, 2019.
He attended Lincoln High School and worked at the Ford Motor Company as a Quality Assurance manager where he retired after 30 years of employment. After retirement he worked part-time at Crispus Attucks Elementary School where he decided to teach himself and others computer skills. He was also a member of the Pioneer club which he enjoyed for many years. Roland enjoyed entertaining guests, socializing with friends and family, traveling the world, fiddling with computers, keeping up is lawn, cheering on the Kansas Chiefs and Royals and JD.
Roland was kind, caring, well liked and respected in his community. He was a good friend and loving to his family, he will be truly missed. Mr. Young is survived by his son, Roland P. Young Jr. (Risa); from his first marriage, two granddaughters, Traci Young and Lena Young, great-granddaughter, Naia Young , niece Carolyn Watkins (Clifford) and a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside Services will be held Monday, May 18, 2020 at Forest Hill & Calvary Cemetery.
