James Howard Lloyd was born June 9, 1941, in Kansas City, Missouri. He was the youngest of nine children born to the union of Rev. John E. Lloyd and Francis L. Powell Lloyd, who preceded him in death. James and his wife are blessed with 63 years of marriage. Together they raised seven incredible children. He was ordained as a minister, pastored a church, and taught mathematics. He and his wife resided in the Kansas City area until his death.
He was a graduate of Manuel High School in Kansas City, Missouri. He also earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from California State University, Los Angeles. His career included teaching in three school districts. In addition, he worked as an elevator operator for Tension Envelope. A fun fact he ran for Mayor of Kansas City in 1978. He enjoyed traveling and especially family vacations.
On November 14, 2021, he transitioned to his Heavenly Home to join his parents and siblings who preceded him in death; Francis Holmes, Juanella Mae Bradley, Ida Johnson, Dorothy Maxwell, Henry Lloyd, and Franklin Lloyd.
He leaves to advance his legacy his loving wife, Shirley Lloyd, their children, Denise (James) McDowell, Deirdra (Willie) Colclough, Jimmy Lloyd, Andrae (Dana) Lloyd, Sheryl (Jason) Taylor, Mark Lloyd, Brandon Lloyd; eleven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; sisters Dr. Zelma Frank, Gloria Bagby; sisters-in-law, mother-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A point of pride, his collection of college diplomas gifted to him by his grandchildren when they graduated from college. He taught us that we could reach the unreachable star with God's grace, a strong sense of family, and by earning a college degree.
